Frequently Asked Questions?

Q.  Does VETSS only permit military veterans to attend their training sessions?

A.  No, veterans’ applications are accepted as they are received, with civilian applications processed within 30-days of the start of training.  We have been fortunate in never having to turn anyone away because we can always contract for a larger facility to use.

Q.  Does the VETSS solar training program result in national certification to install solar energy systems?

A.  No!  However, our training sessions instructors are nationally certified, and work with students to continue their individual training that can/will lead to their opportunity to take the certification examination at the appropriate time.

Q.  Does VETSS provide jobs to the graduates?

A.  No.  We assist the graduate to find employment in the area of the expertise and where they have the most experience.  We are now advancing our training program to ensure projects are available when a class graduates, thus increasing the graduates’ possibility to execute their skills immediately.  Several renewable energy companies have requested we partner with them to install solar, wind and geothermal products for them on their projects.

Q. Is there a funding source from which military veterans can get grants and scholarships to attend VETSS training?

A.  Not at this time, however, we have met with both the VA and Department of Labor to begin the administrative requirements to obtain these funds.  VETSS has established an “in-house” funding means to reduce the cost of veterans attending to that of 50% of the regular fees.

Q.  Does training have to be conducted in the St. Louis region or can the Mobile Team come to where a group of 10+ students are located?

A.  VETSS is equipped to travel to a remote site for training purposes, however, that increases the overall costs of the program.  We are located near the airport, have great relationships with local hotels, and have on-going construction site for which our students can visit.  Airfares through Southwest into St Louis can be obtain at a very competitive basis.
